HOW GOOGLE HOME AUTOMATION WORKS! Internet of Things
INTRODUCTION
A home automation system
is a system that automates the bulk of electronic and electrical tasks within a home.
It uses a combination of hardware and software to enable control and management
over appliances and devices within a home.Home
automation not only refers to reduce human efforts but also energy efficiency
and time saving. Here we are performing home automation by using ESP8266 and
voice enabled application(Google assistant) in our project.
The
home automation circuit is built around ESP8266, Google Assistant, and a
4-channel relay board.The
hardware set up should be according to the circuit diagram given below.
AC mains
appliances(Bulbs) will be connected to relays which are controlled by the
ESP8266.Whenever
the user says the appropriate instruction (proper trigger words to Google Assistant ), then that information
will be send to ESP8266 via WiFi.The
ESP8266 analyses the received commands and turns ON/OFF of the respective
device via 4 – channel Relay board.
COMPONENTS
NodeMCU:
NodeMCU(Node
Microcontroller Unit) is open source platform, their hardware design is open
for edit/modify/build.NodeMCU Kit/board consist of ESP8266 WiFi
enabled chip.The ESP8266 enables
interaction and provides a communication
platform between our handset and the appliances need to be automated.
Relay Board:
This
is a 5V 4-channel relay interface board, and each channel needs a 15-20mA
driver current. It can be used to control various appliances and equipment with large current. It has a standard interface that can be
controlled directly by microcontroller.Desired
loads are connected to separate channels on the relay board.
IFTTT:
IFTTT
is a free web-based service to create chains of simple conditional
statements, called applets.An
applet is triggered by changes that occur within other web services such as Gmail,Facebook,Telegram,Instagram
or Pinterest.Proper
trigger words are loaded and the corresponding action programmed with webhooks
via IFTTT.
WORKING
NodeMCU is interfaced with our handset through IFTTT.Connections are given as per the circuit diagram.Loads are connected to the relay board.IFTTT is also synchronized with the NodeMCU.A proper set of instruction is dumped to the NodeMCU.The load is turned ON or OFF through Google Assistant.Proper instructions are dumped to the NodeMCU and when the proper triggered words are pronounced,the load is turned ON/OFF.
CONCLUSION
As
the technologies are rapidly advancing that affects the human daily lives more
flexible in controlling home Appliances.Electrical
installations are heart of any residential building,therefore
intelligent control ensures the safety and efficient control and eventually
saves power consumption. As
